NAREI launches booklet ‘Green Agriculture’

THE National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) has launched a booklet titled “Green Agriculture: Benefits and Practices” as part of its open day activities for Agriculture Month, 2015.At the launch on Thursday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Oudho Homenauth said the booklet was produced in its entirety by the agency’s staffers.

Those present at the launch included NAREI Board Chairman, Major General (ret’d) Joe Singh and other board members and staff of the agriculture research organisation.
The booklet said in part that the greening of the agriculture sector is intended to generate a range of benefits, including increased profits and incomes for farmers and enabling the sector to adapt to climate change and the resultant benefits for eco-system services.
The booklet detailed some of the practices involved in greening agriculture, including integrated pest management, vermicomposting, shaded cultivation, mangrove restoration and solar drying.
Dr Homenauth said that the booklet will be used as a resource for staffers.
