Convicted cocaine, marijuana trafficker jailed, fined

ROYSTON De Viera, 31, of  Lot 158 Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, convicted on two counts of drug trafficking, was sentenced to a total of eight years imprisonment on Monday.
Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, before whom he pleaded guilty, imposed two four years sentences on him but ordered that they run concurrently. In addition, the prisoner was fined $60,000.

Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said cops, acting on information received, went to the convict’s home on June 3 and conducted a search.
The Prosecutor said the ranks found a vase, on the lower flat of the two-storey house, that contained a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems of the cannabis sativa (marijuana plant).
Searching further, the sleuths discovered a blue and white plastic plate with cocaine and, at Albion, Corentyne Police Station, also in Berbice, the latter substance weighed 18 grammes while the weight of the marijuana was 18 and a half grammes.
