DESMOND Monroe, a 23-year-old miner accused of wounding his friend during a bar brawl, was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail by Georgetown Magistrate Ann McLennan when, before her, he pleaded not guilty to the wounding charge, which alleged that he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Oswald Jordon on October 11 at 111 Miles, Mahdia. The miner pleaded not guilty to the charge when the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied by the Magistrate by request of the prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones.
According to Jones, the defendant and Jordon were consuming alcohol at a local bar in Mahdia when an argument ensued. Enraged, Munroe broke a bottle and dealt the victim several stabs about his body. The magistrate released Monroe on bail after the prosecutor had raised no objection to the defendant being granted bail. The matter was adjourned until October 20, when it will be heard by the Mahdia Magistrate.
