GUYANA Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) will conduct a one day workshop on Friday to show medium and small scale gold miners how they can improve exploration and mineral recovery without adverse impacts on the environment.
The programme starts at 08:00 h and continues through 15:00h in the Rupununi Room of Hotel Tower, on Main Street, Georgetown. The training exercise is being conducted in collaboration with North American Resources Limited and the resource persons are from GGMC and New Era Engineering Corporation.
Topics to be addressed include alluvial exploration and mine planning; identifying and recovering gold and other valuable minerals lost during sluice box recovery; selecting and matching mining and mineral recovery equipment; evaluation and control of tailings discharge and aspects of sedimentation and hydrology.
The main presenter will be overseas based Mr. Randy Clarkson, considered an expert on systems to increase gold recovery rates in mining operations.
Other speakers will be Dr. Serge Nadeau and Ms. Tejshree Tiwari of GGMC.
GGMC said all mine operators, general managers of dredge operations as well as mining and geology students are especially invited.
The registration fee is $2,500 per person but students will be exempted from paying once they present proof of their status at the Registration Desk.
The workshop is the second of its kind for the year, following the first, in March, with similar objectives.
