He said government has to follow a number of procedures before the Commissioners can be sworn in, the Minister told reporters.
“We are assured that by Tuesday the President will be in a position once those Commissioners are available to be sworn in.”
On Thursday, the PPP expressed concern over what it deems to be a delay by President Granger in appointing the new Commissioners to GECOM.
“The absence of these members is hampering the PPP/C’s representation on the Commission,” the party said.
Mahamood Shaw and Athmaram Mangar, two of the three GECOM Commissioners had resigned citing personal reasons. They are being replaced by Robeson Benn and Bibi Shaddick, both former Ministers in the PPP Administration.
The only Commissioner currently representing the PPP/C on GECOM is Sase Gunraj.
Meanwhile, Harmon said he cannot speak to the likelihood of Local Government Elections being held this year as GECOM has to provide “certain assurance” before a date is announced.
“The problem that we have now is that the PPP have two Commissioners resigned, so there has not been a quorum. Two other names have been floated and those names have been submitted to the President,” he told reporters.
