The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer T20 First Division Competition continued over the weekend as Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Transport Sports Club (TSC) sank Guyana Defence Force (GDF).DCC hosted GCC on Saturday and claimed a 22-run victory over the visiting side. Batting first, DCC posted 179 – 8 in their allotted overs as they were led by and unbeaten knock of 40 from Jahron Byron while Sherfane Rutherford (40) and Christopher Barnwell (30) supported.
Anthony Adams and Renaldo Ali Mohamed were the most effective bowlers for GCC as they finished with 2 – 11 and 2 – 42, respectively.
In reply, GCC were restricted to 157 – 9 when the overs expired. A spirited unbeaten 44 from West Indies Test batsman Leon Johnson could not prevent the DCC win, which put them at top of Zone ‘B’.
They will join Zone ‘A’ winner, Malteenoes, in the semis.
Rutherford, Barnwell and Kemo Paul all picked up two wickets in the victorious effort.
Earlier in the day, TSC recorded a 17-run win over GDF. The eventual victor posted 172 – 4 with the help of Ryan Hemraj who blasted a solid 82, which was laced with eight fours and two sixes.
Suresh Budhoo (28) featured in a partnership of 70 with Hemraj for the third wicket. Gilford Moore with 2 – 38 was the best bowler for GDF.
Marcus Watkins (49) top scored in GDF’s chase but with the only other solid contribution coming from Leon Andrews (28) they could not hold on for the win. Orin Fernandes (2-25) and Budhoo (2-7) bowled TSC to victory.
