Pomeroon Women’s Agro-Processors Association gets gift computer, accessories

THE Ministry of Agriculture, in an effort to support the industry, has donated a computer and accessories to Pomeroon Women’s Agro-Processors Association.

Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Robert Persaud, speaking on the occasion which coincided with the recent commissioning of the group’s agro-packaging plant at Charity, Essequibo Coast, said the gesture reflects a fulfillment of an earlier promise.

The factory is designed to increase the manufacturing of preserved fruits, jams, wines, pepper and cooking sauces and achar.

Persaud said Government will continue to be supportive of the sub-sector, in accordance with its thrust to boost value-added activities which provides greater income, longer shelf life and enhance the attractiveness of commodities.

Deputy Permanent Secretary, Finance, in the Agriculture Ministry, Mrs. Prema Ramanha-Roopnarine exhorted the beneficiaries to utilise the equipment also for the benefit Charity/Pomeroon farmers.

President of the Agro processors Association, Mrs. Vilma Da Silva said the assistance was timely and will complement their ongoing expansion needs. (Tajeram Mohabir)
