Disappointed in Hamilton Green

We were very disappointed to read a letter signed by Mr. Hamilton Green, J P, captioned “Is anyone listening?” ( Kaieteur News, May 14, 2009).

Mr. Green should have ensured that the information he received from a friend that no men had been included in the National Commission on the Rights of the Child was correct before writing that he was “deeply saddened and surprised” by the omission

If he had taken the time to read Kaieteur News of Saturday, May 9, 2009, he would have seen the report on page 14 under the caption “ Rights of the Child Commission Sworn In”, which mentioned that among those sworn in to the Commission was our friend and colleague Vidyaratha Kissoon as well as Kwame McKoy .

We are writing specifically to represent Vidyaratha, who for many years has stood up for the rights and protection of children. He has also been a great role model; one does not have to be a biological parent to be a role model for children. Just as countless women who have not given birth have played significant roles in the lives of the children around them, there are men who have done so. Vidya is one of them. We are proud to have him as a role model for our daughters and sons.
