The pedestrian who was killed on Saturday in a road accident at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, has been identified as Rohan Ramsue, 29.
He was identified by relatives on Saturday.
Police reported that at about 10:30 hrs on that day, Ramsue, of Parika, was killed when the driver of motor car HB 5752 collided with him.
Police said the car was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that the pedestrian attempted to cross the road and was struck down.
He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed to his injuries. The body is at the GPH mortuary.
The driver of the motorcar is in police custody.
Meanwhile, the Police Traffic Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, said that for this year 32 persons were killed in 35 road accidents, while for the corresponding period in 2009, 30 persons died as a result of 29 road accidents.
The department has been calling on drivers and all road users to adhere to all traffic regulations.
