In the Friday May 15, 2009 edition of the Guyana Chronicle, the story under the headline “GNBS certifies Eureka to do allergy, prostate testing” is erroneous, according to the Guyana Bureau of Standards (GNBS).
The GNBS yesterday stated that it certifies laboratories in Guyana according to requirements of the national standard GYS 170: 2003, which are the general requirements of a laboratory.
Eureka Laboratory and Family Clinic, at 263 Thomas Street, Georgetown, had their certificate of the standard renewed by the GNBS after they were surveyed for over a period of time to ensure they maintained the quality system required.
The GNBS added that it does not certify the use of the machine, but the quality of the laboratory.
GNBS noted that all laboratories are required to comply with the GNBS standard.
