Defendants bonded after compensating assault victim

JUNIOR Balgobin and Dexter Thomas (no addresses given) have compensated the virtual complainant in their assault case.
Consequently, after the disclosure was made when the duo appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice, they were each put on a bond to keep the peace for one year.
Earlier, after the victim, Puran Persaud acknowledged receiving $30,000 compensation and swore not to pursue the prosecution, Balgobin and Thomas were also ordered to pay $3,000 costs, individually, for wasting the Court’s time, at the insistence of  Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting.
The probationers, last March 31, went to Lot 18 Cumberland, East Canje, in Berbice, as well, where, following an argument, they dealt Persaud several lashes about his body with sticks, causing him to suffer injuries
