FACULTY of Technology has added another sports title to its resumé for the Academic Year 2009-2010 when they defeated the much vaunted Faculty of Natural Sciences by 64 runs in the final at the University of Guyana (UG) ground on Friday to become the UG Inter-faculty Twenty20 champions.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Technology amassed a formidable 173-8, thanks to a patient knock by Godfrey Thakurdin who scored 35 runs with two fours while other useful contributions came from Jermaine Reynolds 26 (2×4, 1×6) and, Earl Fortune 22 (2×6, 1×4).
Bowling for Natural Sciences, Rhinold Cameron took 3-38 while Vishal Mohabir and Latchman Nakuul took two wickets each for 30 and 32 runs respectively.
A depleted Natural Sciences team, without the services of Wasim Haslim and Treon Forde who were both on duty for Georgetown Cricket Club in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Digicel Twenty/20 competition, could tally only 109 before they were bowled out in 17 overs.
Skipper Rovin Crawford led the scoring with his 29 (2×4) and even though both Mohabir 23 (3×4) and Nakuul 17 (1×4) offered support, none of the other batsmen was given the opportunity to make any worthwhile contributions by the Technology bowlers, led by Dennis Yearwood 4-8, with support from Rudolph McDonald (2-22) and Fortune who returned to scalp 2-31.
