In $55M project…
GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) has embarked on a $55M project to upgrade water meters and improve the service connection to customers, with an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan. GWI Project Engineer, Mr. Anil Ramnath told the Guyana Chronicle the target areas are North and South Ruimveldt, including Festival City and Lamaha Springs and the contractor, Nabbi Construction Inc. is expected to complete the work by May.
He exhorted customers to cooperate with the workmen who are now in the process of replacing polyhose pipes, leading from the GWI main pipeline to the individual customer’s house, with galvanized pipes and installing meters which will be secured in a specially made box designed to deter tampering.
Ramnauth said all leaks will be stopped and, if there are any after the contract is exhausted, householders can report such to GWI Customer Services Department.
He said, during the upgrading, it was discovered that many customers are not too happy because it will be difficult for them to interfere with the new meters.
Ramnath assured that all damaged fences will be repaired by the contractor, too.
