Working together we shall overcome all hurdles

I read with disgust a letter penned by Rohit Parmanand in the Wednesday, March 31, 2010 edition of Kaieteur News aimed at tarnishing the character of the Minister of Agriculture and the good work his Ministry has been doing for all farmers across Guyana. After careful perusal of the letter, I am of the belief that Rohit Parmanand is alien to the realities of Guyana and have not been following the news and the vast information provided by the various media, particularly on Government’s response to mitigate effects of the current El Nino conditions. Numerous advisories and publication were available via the print and broadcast media. It is strange that Mr., Parmanand is not aware of what is happening or is it that he chooses to disregard the information and to willfully impede the good work being undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and other stakeholders.

We, particularly, farmers have been bombarded with information relating to El Nino and if Rohit Parmanand was living in Guyana up to the time he claimed he was, surely he would have been aware of the many advisories issued or he chose deliberately to neglect and remain in a deep slumber.

From reading the article it can be decipher that the letter is a continuation of the opposition misinformation and smear campaign. I am of the firm belief that Rohit Parmanand is an agent of the opposition who is trying to create a sense of non-responsiveness and chaos. But I dare say that the Guyanese people cannot be easily fooled.

I do hope the Minister would not waste his time and energies to respond to the slander that Rohit Parmanand or his handlers has written, but to sue him and the very newspaper that published the letter for every dime they own for writing and publish such a misleading letter. Further, the Minister and his Ministry should not be side tracked, but continue their hard work to support farmers who need them now more than ever in the current situation. To the Minister and his Ministry, I say we the farmers believe that by working together we shall overcome all hurdles.
