Caribbean Airlines fare structure still a Cabinet concern

THE complaint about unreasonable and unfair fares charged Guyanese, in particular those leaving Cheddi Jagan International Airport for Port of Spain, Trinidad, remains a concern for Cabinet.
Consequently, at the last meeting on Tuesday, Cabinet resolved to continue its focus on addressing the issue, Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon said.

He added that, notwithstanding previous interventions by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Cabinet is calling for market forces to bring about some sort of relief to the Guyanese traveller.
The opening of that route to competition is seriously being considered, the Head of the Presidential Secretariat disclosed.
Last year, following numerous complaints, by local travelers, about the cost of the air fare and customer service, President Bharrat Jagdeo and Prime Minister Hinds met with some officials of Caribbean Airlines at State House, where the representatives said they have a flexible price structure, with a range from which customers can choose, depending on the services they require.
Luncheon said most people are of the view that Guyanese are being dealt with unfairly by the carrier and the feeling is independent of the traveller.
He said even non-travellers have been recognising the injustice meted out to Guyanese by the airline
