CORRIE van Zyl will continue as interim coach of South Africa until April 2011, while Jacques Kallis has been appointed vice-captain with Graeme Smith remaining captain, until the end of the 2011 World Cup, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) board decided at a meeting yesterday.
It was also decided to appoint a four-member national selection panel comprising the convenor of selectors, a High Performance representative, the national coach and the captain.
The process to establish this new selection committee will begin immediately and meanwhile the interim selection panel – comprising CSA chief executive Gerald Majola, van Zyl and batting consultant Kepler Wessels – will continue to operate.
The board endorsed a new structure to provide South Africa with a strong management team that supports excellence, innovation and international best practice, as proposed by Majola. He was tasked with compiling a process of appointing the new structure, which will commence after the 2011 ICC World Cup.
The Board further endorsed a proposal to include six new players – Loots Bosman, Alviro Petersen, Charl Langeveldt, Ryan McLaren, Roelof van der Merwe and Rusty Theron – to the list of contracted players for the 2010-2011 season. (Cricinfo)
