THE audience was taken on an exotic and sensual tour of the senses last Saturday evening, when the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) hosted a dance, lecture and Kathak demonstration, at its New Haven, Bel Air, Georgetown auditorium.
The lecturer was ICC Kathak Instructor, Ms. Mousumi Shaha.
Shaha, who hails from Calcutta, India, has a Masters Degree from the National School of Kathak Dance in New Dehli and was at the centre for nine months.
Topics covered in talk included ‘Types of Dances of India’, ‘Elements of Indian Classical Dances’ and ‘The Music of Kathak.’
A special performance on aspects of Kathak was done by her students and Shaha herself.
She tutors 75 students, some as young as five years old, at the centre currently.
The ICC will stage another such show on March 1, 2010 at 11:00h.
