Nicolette Fernandes sportswoman 2009 award well deserved

I did predict that Nicolette Fernandes will qualify for the sportswoman 2009 award and it was a well deserved selection especially with her recent European success in GREECE.
Having no knowledge about the time span in the sport of
“Squash” that an athlete usually spends during competitive meetings, but until this individual chooses to retire, I hope she continues to push the envelope and we should be very proud that the golden arrow head is hoisted in another field of sport.
The other awardees also deserve their respective awards and to those not selected and making the cut, you will continue to have my support for the efforts and representation you make.
Region 9 (Lethem’s) rising junior track athlete, maintain your focus with intense training preparation and I will always be optimistic that a Guyanese will make us all proud sometime in the future by standing on the Olympic or World Championship Track and Field Podium.
KN’S sports reporting in its issue of 2.15.2010 once again highlighted an impressive performance by Aliann Pompey by winning the 400M in Boston.I have to admit that the US Sporting Body deserves a lot of credit for accommodating and facilitating Pompey’s training. If only more scholarships could become available for other local potential hopefuls, just imagine Guyana becoming a household name in sports.
Turning to the present showing of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, I am forever grateful to the management of WRHM Channel 7 for its broadcast of the games. I am left disappointed whenever the broadcast cuts off at midnight and transferred to channels 38 and 89.My impression so far is that Canada has produced a decent, colorful and exciting opening ceremony and I also expect the closing one to be interesting.
The races so far are quite competitive and interesting and it was a shock to learn of the “Georgian Olympian” who had a tragic ending during training just before the start of the games.
So, it’s over now to the “London 2012 Olympic Games” and I just can’t wait to see what they have in the bag for us. It will take a master of the master to dethrone the Chinese for what they give to the world with the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Games.
Just before London, we should be in for some pump fisting with the 2010 World Cup Soccer in June. It’s premature to pick a winner and I am hoping that, we, the locals can have the opportunity of winning a few trips to South Africa.
What say you BANK’S DIH?
Any promotions in the making like you did for the 1998 Worlds Cup in France?
Guyana Times, I honestly don’t believe that in your 2.16.2010 issue that the photo you carried of local athlete, Rawle Greene is an authentic one. It was just an observation.
