Please allow me to express my thanks to National Communications Network, Channel 11, for carrying live coverage of the 2009 National Budget debate. The broadcast allowed me to have an inside view of the debate taking place at the National Assembly and to weigh the issues under discussion. After listening to the debates, I am not sure where some members of the opposition get their information on the developments taking place in the housing sector. I live in the Grove/Diamond Housing Community and last month the Ministry of Housing invited us to participate in an open house consultation which gave us an opportunity to make suggestions on how we want to see our area developed in the very near future. I must admit I was skeptical but eventually I attended after the officials from the Central Housing and Planning Authority explained the intention of the consultation programme. I must impart that I’ve made use of the occasion to state my ideal community which includes recreational facilities for my child and access to modern shopping. I am disappointed that the PNCR-1G Mr. Keith Scott did not do his homework but went on to claim that no thought was given to the social development of housing communities. I would hate to think that my neighbours and I wasted our energies in supporting the Ministry and the Central Housing Authority’s new approach for developing our community. Mr. Editor, while I consider infrastructure for roads, water and electricity to be absolute necessities for any new housing development, I am grateful that the government is not just providing us with those basic necessities but has long-term plans that include a playground, garbage disposal and proper drainage. With these developments soon to commence, I am awaiting the day when Mr. Scott will be forced to retract his statement that government has given no thought to the social development of housing communities.
