I wish to respond to Mr Roger Williams’ letter published in the Kaieteur News of 2010-02-10, where he claims, “The Peoples’ Friendship University may have got it wrong…colossally so!”
Allow me to first question Mr. Williams’ claim of delusion in this regard; are the people, and the nation at large, deluded when they look at the advancements Dr. Jagdeo continues to make in the area of agriculture under the Jagdeo Initiative? Not to mention, the President’s unfailing struggle to consolidate democracy and democratic elections to the people of Guyana? What of his economic policies and his exhaustive efforts in garnering resources so as to enable this country to withstand external shocks, even amid the present global financial downturn?
Most notably, President Jagdeo’s efforts to raise Guyana’s stature in the international community; his relentless efforts to acquire funding for this country through his Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), which continues to receive support from the international community. These are all significant hallmarks in President Jagdeo’s terms in office that the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia recognises, and of which we, as true Guyanese and Caribbean patriots, should be proud.
