‘Bamboo’ further remanded on carnal knowledge charges

WELL-KNOWN New Amsterdam barber Elroy Trellis alias ‘Bamboo’ was, last Friday, further remanded to prison until February 1.

It happened when, in the absence of Defence Counsel Charran Das Persaud, Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, adjourned the case after Probation and Welfare Officer Maisie Sheppard presented a report that contained certain information.

The accused had previously appeared in Court last January 15, on three indictable charges of carnal knowledge, which said, on December 2, 2009 and January 6 and 13, 2010, he had sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 years.

Police Assistant Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh, prosecuting, had successfully objected to bail for Trellis, after also stating that the crimes were allegedly committed in houses at Islington, East Bank Berbice and Sheet Anchor, East Canje, all in the ‘Ancient County’, when the schoolgirl was supposed to have been attending Mathematics lessons.
