MAGISTRATE Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court, last Friday, fined Clifton Ramsarran alias ‘Witch’ $15,000 for possession of cannabis (marijuana).
In addition, the convict is to perform two months community service at Reliance Police Station, Canje.
Ramsarran, of Number Two, Corentyne, also in Berbice, pleaded guilty to having been found with leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant when Police, acting on information received, raided his home and seized five grammes of the narcotic from on a shelf in his bedroom.
He told the Court he uses the drug and had wrapped a portion to smoke while cooking.
Ramsarran also pleaded guilty to another charge, which said he had a television set, a DVD player, a travelling bag, an aquarium and other things suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
