King's award for UWI's Harris

THE Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Nigel Harris, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Martin Luther King Award for “international service”.

News of this coveted honour, in commemoration of the remarkable contributions of the late civil rights leader of the United States of America and internationally famous advocate of peace, came yesterday on the eve of today’s ‘Martin Luther King Day”.

A world renowned expert in rheumatology, Guyanese-born Professor Harris has been UWI Vice-Chancellor since 2003.

Highly regarded in academia, in and out of the Caribbean, he is the son of one of the region’s most outstanding novelist, Wilson Harris (R. SINGH)
