Hindus will plant ‘Holika’ tonight

PHAGWAH or ‘Holi’ is celebrated with great fanfare in Guyana – like in India and other parts of the world where the Indian Diaspora is based – but before the actual celebration of Holi, there is the ‘planting of Holika’ a few weeks before. Hindus across Guyana will be planting the Holika tonight, ahead of Phagwah which will be celebrated on March 1.

To this end, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be holding a special service at the Shri Krishna mandir in Campbellville, Georgetown, this evening from 19:00 hrs. The service – which will include ‘chowtal’ singing – will be followed by the actual planting of the ‘holika’. All are invited.
