MOTORISTS in Georgetown and along parts of the East Coast Demerara corridor should expect temporary road closures and traffic diversions on Thursday and Friday, the Guyana Police Force announced, as authorities prepare for the State Visit of His Majesty King Charles III.
The restrictions, to be in place on October 29 and 30, will affect several major roadways and intersections, the Force said in a traffic advisory. Areas expected to be hit hardest include the vicinity of State House, the War Memorial, Promenade Gardens, the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Umana Yana, Stabroek Market and the Kingston Seawall.
The police are urging drivers to plan their trips in advance, use alternative routes and allow extra travel time. Motorists are also being told to follow the directions of Traffic Ranks deployed along affected roadways.
The Force said the restrictions will be implemented “as operationally necessary” and lifted once it is safe to do so, suggesting that closures may change over the course of both days rather than follow a fixed schedule.
The Force asked road users for their co-operation and understanding, saying the measures are intended to ensure public safety and keep traffic moving during the visit.
Members of the public can find the full list of road closures, affected intersections and commencement times in the detailed Traffic Advisory issued by the Force.
