SIXTEEN ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have commenced a 12-week Junior All Arms Ordnance Course aimed at strengthening their technical capacity to manage military stores and ensure the accountable use of resources.

The course, conducted by the GDF Training Corps, is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to handle military supplies in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

The curriculum covers Government Store Regulations, Material Regulations, storekeeping procedures, accounting for rations, petroleum products and other military stores, introductory bookkeeping, stores documentation, and environmental health and sanitation.

Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, Officer Commanding Technical Division, Lieutenant Commander Derrick Johnson, underscored the importance of effective logistics management to the successful execution of military operations.

“The efficiency of our logistics directly influences our ability to accomplish the mission and the mandate of our respective units,” he stated.

Lieutenant Commander Johnson urged the ranks to approach the training with discipline and diligence, stressing the importance of applying the knowledge and skills acquired to their assigned duties.

“Let your performance on this course, and your conduct afterwards, demonstrate a commitment to not only your personal development but betterment of the Force,” he said.

The training is expected to strengthen participants’ ability to maintain accurate inventory records, follow established accounting procedures and manage the receipt, storage and distribution of military supplies.

Effective management of these resources is critical to ensuring that units have the necessary equipment and supplies to carry out their responsibilities while minimising waste and maintaining accountability.

The GDF expects the knowledge gained through the course to contribute to improved stores management and more responsible use of resources entrusted to the Force, ultimately supporting its operational readiness and effectiveness.
