–as housing development advances
FOR Latoya Norville, the dream of homeownership has finally become a reality, bringing an end to years of renting and marking the beginning of a new chapter for her family.
Ms. Norville was among eight beneficiaries who received keys to their newly constructed three-bedroom bungalow-style houses at the Tract Bar New Housing Development in Bartica, Region Seven, on Friday.
With her electrical certificate in hand and plans to secure her water connection, the proud homeowner is already looking forward to settling into her new house.
Expressing satisfaction with the process, Ms. Norville commended the ministry, noting that the journey to homeownership was well worth the wait.
Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, joined the beneficiaries for the significant occasion, alongside Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Josh Khanai, and Prime Minister’s Representative, Mr. Erwin Ward, who shared in the families’ excitement as they received their keys.

The presentation formed part of a wider exercise through which the first 21 beneficiaries were granted access to their completed three-bedroom bungalow-style houses in Bartica.
Speaking at the development, Minister Croal highlighted the government’s ongoing investment in expanding access to affordable housing in Region Seven, noting that several housing areas are being developed simultaneously to meet the growing demand for house lots and completed houses.
“We are here in Bartica. In fact, this is where the housing development is taking place. We have three areas that are under development,” the minister said.
He noted that development has already taken place within the original CH&PA housing block, where lands have been allocated and housing units constructed.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress, particularly the opportunity for families to transition from renting into their own houses.
The ongoing housing programme in Bartica forms part of the government’s broader commitment to improving homeownership opportunities, expanding residential communities and ensuring that more Guyanese families can access affordable and secure housing.
Beyond the construction of houses, the ministry continues to advance land allocation and infrastructural development across the township, creating additional opportunities for eligible applicants to access residential lots and eventually construct their own houses.
For Ms. Norville and the other beneficiaries, Friday’s presentation represented more than receiving keys. It marked the fulfilment of a long-awaited aspiration and the beginning of a future built on greater stability, security and independence. (CH&PA)
