MINISTER within the Ministry of Public Works, Madanlall Ramraj, has moved for the immediate termination of the contract awarded to Raising Transportation and Construction for works at a section of Ideal Road, following prolonged delays and the contractor’s failure to advance the project. New contractors will be engaged to ensure that the much-needed works move forward.
The Minister expressed strong dissatisfaction with the situation, noting that no work has been undertaken at the site since August 8, 2026, despite repeated correspondence to the contractor regarding the delays.
“This is unacceptable! I have seen pictures of residents having to drive and walk through mud and slush whenever it rains, and that is not the standard of living we want for our people. Families should not have to endure these conditions simply because a contractor is failing to execute his responsibilities. We cannot have people’s lives stalled up because a contractor is failing to execute his responsibilities,” Minister Ramraj stated.
He further explained that the contractor has been written to on several occasions and given ample opportunities to fulfil his contractual obligations, but the project remains significantly behind schedule.
“We have given this contractor every opportunity to get the work done. He is fully aware of the delays and the impact they are having on people’s lives. I have therefore recommended to the technical team that the contract be terminated immediately and a new contractor engaged to complete the project. The people have waited long enough, and we must move forward,” the Minister emphasised
