NINETEEN healthcare professionals have successfully completed the Medex Training Programme, strengthening Guyana’s primary healthcare workforce as the government continues efforts to expand access to essential medical services, particularly in rural, hinterland and underserved communities.
The graduates were recognised during a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Windjammer International Cuisine and Comfort Inn, attended by Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony.

The programme forms part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing investment in healthcare education, professional development and capacity building, aimed at ensuring that more trained medical personnel are available to serve communities across the country.
Designed to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, the Medex Training Programme equips participants with the knowledge, clinical skills and competencies required to provide essential medical services, including disease prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and community-based healthcare.
The newly trained professionals are expected to play an important role in addressing healthcare needs, particularly in remote communities where access to medical services remains a priority.
Their addition to the healthcare workforce is also expected to support the government’s broader efforts to improve the availability, accessibility and quality of primary healthcare services nationwide.
The Ministry of Health has continued to prioritise the training of healthcare professionals as part of its wider strategy to modernise the country’s healthcare system, strengthen service delivery and reduce disparities in access to medical care.
The ministry congratulated the 19 graduates on their achievement and encouraged them to demonstrate professionalism, compassion, dedication and excellence as they begin the next phase of their careers in service to the people of Guyana.
