The mother of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran, whose body was discovered early Tuesday morning following days of searching, is struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of her son.

“Orlando is my favourite baby, and that is my baby boy. And I’m really gonna miss him,” 31-year-old Navita Ramnarine said as she recalled the devastating ordeal.

Ramnarine said she learnt of her son’s disappearance last Thursday night after receiving a telephone call from a friend. What followed were four agonising days of searching, as relatives desperately held on to hope that the child would be found alive.

However, during the wee hours of Tuesday morning, she received the news no mother ever wants to hear which was that her son’s body was found.

The grieving mother expressed shock and disbelief over the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, particularly the allegations involving his father, Bharrat Jaikarran.

“I didn’t expect his father gonna do that to him as a father of a child,” she said.

Ramnarine disclosed that she and the child’s father were in a relationship for approximately 12 years before separating due to what she described as abuse.
