FARMERS in South Ken Dam, Parika, Region Three, are benefitting from continued efforts by the government to improve agricultural infrastructure and provide support to the farming community.
During interviews conducted by the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Friday, farmers Rajendra Persaud, Abdul Rashied and Ganesh Tiwari highlighted improvements in farm-to-market roads, water access and other agricultural interventions that are helping to support their farming activities.
Tiwari, who plants pepper, boulanger, cucumber and cassava, appreciates the smooth road he now enjoys to access water for his crop.
“We are happy to get the road…cause some time back, we used to have to walk out for water… So we are happy for this road,” Tiwari said.
Improved road access is particularly important to farmers who depend on reliable transportation to move produce from their fields to markets and customers.
The farmers also highlighted the importance of agricultural assistance, including fertiliser support, in helping them maintain their crops and continue production.
“I do receive fertiliser from time to time, like every three months from the NDC,” Rasheid Abdul explained.
The farmers also pointed to the recently constructed landing outfall at the first koker in Parika, which provides improved facilities for loading and offloading goods, helping farmers move their produce and serve customers faster.
While welcoming these improvements, they noted that frequent visits by the Ministry of Agriculture would help address additional concerns and identify other areas requiring attention within the farming community.
The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, continues to prioritise agricultural development through infrastructural improvements and support initiatives to strengthen production, improve market access and support the livelihoods of farmers across the county. (DPI)
