PRESIDENT Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has condemned recent attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that the violence threatens the country’s security and undermines efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, President Ali said the attacks had adversely affected operations at Riyadh Airport and posed a threat to the safety, stability and security of the Kingdom.
Guyana, he said, deplores all acts of aggression that endanger human lives, violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and jeopardise regional and international peace and security.
“Such actions are counterproductive, deepen tensions and hostility, and take us further away from the goal of a peaceful and stable Middle East,” the President said.
He called for an end to the violence and urged all parties concerned to embrace dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
President Ali stressed that lasting security could not be achieved amid escalating aggression, adding that durable peace required a genuine willingness to resolve differences through peaceful means.
He reaffirmed Guyana’s solidarity with the Government and people of Saudi Arabia, while expressing support for calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, restraint and a return to diplomatic engagement.
The President also urged all parties to uphold international law and avoid further escalation, emphasising the importance of safeguarding regional stability and global security.
Guyana’s position underscores its call for disputes to be resolved through peaceful means and for international efforts to prevent further violence and promote stability in the Middle East.
