MINISTER of Natural Resources and Champion of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), Vickram Bharrat, held talks with outgoing EITI Chairwoman and former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Rt. Helen Clark, as part of the week’s activities at the 2026 EITI Global Conference in Brussels, Belgium.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, October 7, during the conference, which ran from October 5 to 9.
Minister Bharrat and Ms. Clark discussed Guyana’s work, and the minister’s own, with the newly appointed board. A key focus of the conversation was the significance of Guyana’s representation on the board, not only for the country but also for the Caribbean and Latin America.
The meeting came on the same day Minister Bharrat was formally appointed to the EITI International Board, where he will represent the region from 2026 to 2029. The appointment is a profound milestone for Guyana.
