DEMERARA Mutual has again thrown their support behind the Republic Bank Schools Football League, set to kick off Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground at CARFESTA Avenue.
The organizers on Tuesday provided the teams with equipment for preparation and a playing kit for the 7-week tournament.
Petra director Troy Mendonca singled out the teachers for their tremendous support, noting that their recent interaction with has helped the organization to place greater value on what physical education teachers and coaches do towards the success of the teams.

“We understand and appreciate more the efforts that the teachers and coaches make and the amount of effort that they put in to make this happen, so I want to thank you wholeheartedly and hope that you continue to support these young people,”
Mendonca says that with all that is happening in schools with bullies and other recent trends, the footballer is charged to be an example to their peers and to avoid some of the dangers and trends that can have a negative impact on their lives now and in the future.
Oceola Van Doimen, sales and marketing co-coordinator, says that Demerara Mutual is eager to provide the protection for the footballers as they ply their craft.
“Today (yesterday) you are getting new balls and new uniforms, but there is one other thing every team needs, and that is protection. No coach sends a team without a goalkeeper and a solid backline. Insurance is that backline; it is more than policies and paperwork. It is about people and knowing that when something goes wrong, you are not alone, and sports is the same. When you know that, you give it your all.”
Republic Bank marketing analyst Grace Hitnarine told the youth gathered about financial literacy as part of the bank’s dollar and sense campaign
In an interactive session, she briefed them about opening a bank account and developing a budget and growing their savings
