According to agreed facts presented in the matter, the incident occurred on November 2, 2024, when Towler and Captain, who were friends, were at a ball field in Kwakwani.
Towler, who was consuming alcohol at the time, approached Captain, took away his drink, slapped him and left.
Captain subsequently went to Towler’s residence, where he complained to the convict’s mother about the incident and asked her to tell Towler to stay away from him. However, after leaving the residence and walking home, Captain was approached from behind by Towler, who inflicted two stab wounds to his back with a knife.
A scuffle then ensued as Captain attempted to retrieve the weapon from Towler. During the struggle, he sustained eight additional stab wounds to his body.
Captain collapsed and was rushed to the Kwakwani District Hospital, where he received initial treatment before being transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex later that day.
On November 5, 2024, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he received further treatment and underwent surgery.
A medical report detailed the extent of his injuries, which included five stab wounds to his back, one to his right shoulder, one to his left shoulder, one to his left forearm, one to the left side of his chest and a penetrating wound to the right side of his chest. The injuries were deemed life-threatening.
