GUYANESE archers secured seven individual medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze, at the inaugural Caribbean Premier Archery League (CPAL), with 17 athletes representing the country in the regional competition.
The results highlight the development of competitive archery in Guyana, with medal-winning performances across the Senior Barebow and Youth Recurve divisions.
Guyana’s strongest showing came in the Senior Women’s Barebow division, where Shianne Affonso-Simon won gold, Jo-Lee Zammet took silver and Melesa Ramnaraine claimed bronze to complete an all-Guyanese podium.
In the youth Recurve divisions, Lucas Chung captured gold in the Under-21 Men’s category, while Brandon Cummings won gold in the Under-18 Men’s division. Saifullah Gani added bronze in the Under-18 Men’s category, and Fatima Gani secured silver in the Under-18 Women’s division.
The Caribbean Premier Archery League is a new annual competition platform sanctioned by World Archery Americas (WAA). It was established to provide Caribbean archers with access to internationally recognised competition standards while reducing the costs associated with frequent overseas travel.
The league uses standardised World Archery competition formats, digital submission of results and certified national-level officiating to provide a structured competitive environment for athletes across the region.
The platform also offers developing archers an opportunity to gain competitive experience, assess their performances against regional opponents and prepare for larger regional and international events.
President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said the participation of 17 athletes from multiple clubs reflected the breadth of the country’s developing competitive programme.
“The participation of 17 athletes across multiple clubs in our beautiful country reflects the breadth of Guyana’s developing competitive archery programme,” Persaud-McKinnon said.
She added that the results provided further encouragement as Guyana prepares to host the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships and the eighth Caribbean Developmental Championships at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, from October 22-25, 2026.
The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana congratulated all 17 participating athletes, the seven medallists, their coaches, clubs, families and supporters, while reaffirming its commitment to developing the sport at all levels across Guyana.
