ExxonMobil Guyana is set to begin maintenance work on an offshore pipeline near Crane, West Coast Demerara, on October 14, with the activities expected to continue until approximately December 1.
The maintenance is intended to address a finding identified during inspection of a near-shore section of the pipeline earlier this year and is part of measures to ensure the safety, integrity and reliability of the infrastructure.
ExxonMobil Guyana said the work will be carried out in accordance with international standards and is aimed at maintaining the pipeline’s long-term integrity ahead of the start-up of Gas-to-Energy operations.
The company said the pipeline is currently pressurised with inert nitrogen gas and has not yet been placed into operation. As a result, it said, the infrastructure does not pose a risk to the public or the environment.
The maintenance programme is being undertaken before the pipeline becomes operational to minimise the likelihood of future interruptions once Gas-to-Energy operations commence.
ExxonMobil Guyana is coordinating with relevant stakeholders ahead of the works, while the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) is expected to issue a marine notice providing information to mariners operating in the area.
The company said the maintenance forms part of its broader commitment to conducting operations safely and responsibly and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The pipeline forms part of the infrastructure associated with Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy initiative, which is intended to transport natural gas for use in power generation and other related activities.
