POLICE are investigating an alleged robbery under arms in which a 19-year-old man was shot in the left foot and relieved of two gold-coloured chains valued at approximately $1.6 million at Owen Street, Kitty, Georgetown, on Monday night.
The incident occurred at about 19:45h while the victim, a Campbellville resident, was in the company of several persons on the roadway.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group was approached by two unidentified males travelling on an XR motorcycle.
Police said the pillion rider, who was armed with a handgun, dismounted and instructed the victim and the others not to move.
The victim reportedly attempted to flee, prompting the armed suspect to discharge several rounds. One of the bullets struck the man in his left foot, causing him to fall to the ground.
The suspect then allegedly removed two yellow-metal chains from the victim, with a combined value of approximately $1.6 million, before returning to the waiting motorcycle.
The two suspects subsequently rode away from the scene and made good their escape.
The injured man was taken to a private medical facility, where he was admitted. His condition was reported to be stable.
Police have observed CCTV cameras in the area and said footage will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made. Investigations are continuing.
