MEMBER of Parliament, Zamal Hussain has highlighted the important role being played by the government’s Service Centre at Port Mourant, noting that the facility is helping to streamline access to essential government services for residents of Region Six.
Hussain said that the system is functioning effectively and represents the government’s plan to modernise the delivery of public services while making them more accessible, efficient and convenient for citizens.
“This service is beneficial in different ways. It helps to streamline government services that can help citizens. Presently in Guyana, this is something that the entire government system is trying to do, to make sure we have services that are easily accessible to our people,” Hussain said.
He noted that having a centralised facility allows residents to access important services without having to travel to several different locations or navigate multiple government offices.
According to the MP, this is particularly important for residents of Region Six, as the Service Centre at Port Mourant provides a convenient point where persons can seek assistance, obtain information and access a range of government services closer to their communities.
Hussain said the initiative also reflects the government’s continued push towards greater efficiency and the use of modern systems to improve the way citizens interact with state agencies.
He stressed that as Guyana continues to develop, the delivery of public services must also evolve to ensure that citizens are able to conduct their business with government agencies in a simpler and more timely manner.
The MP encouraged Berbicians to make full use of the Port Mourant Service Centre and familiarise themselves with the services available there.
“We put a Service Centre in Port Mourant and a part of that centre is to ensure that we have an E-ID card section where persons have an opportunity to go get their E-ID card, to streamline access to government services; it is a passport-free travel to Barbados; it will also help in terms of the advance biometrics and security happening presently in Guyana; this is soemthing that the entire government system was trying to do to ensure that there is a digitalised government driven system…….”
He added that facilities of this nature are intended to place citizens at the centre of government service delivery by reducing unnecessary inconvenience and creating a more organised and responsive system.
“We are trying to make sure that the E-ID card can help in this whole govenrment driven digitalisation.”
Hussain further noted that improving access to government services is an important component of national development, since citizens must be able to benefit directly from the programmes, systems and services being implemented for them.
