A 40-year-old construction worker is fortunate to be alive after a police patrol  discovered him unconscious along the Lima Access Road, Essequibo Coast, in the early hours of Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The man, identified as Fazal Azeez of Supenaam Creek, was found at approximately 02:22hrs by Sergeant Andrew Ramkissoon and other ranks who were conducting ‘Safeway’ patrol duties in the area.

According to the police, the ranks had just entered the Lima Access Road when they noticed Azeez lying motionless on the roadway.

Sergeant Ramkissoon immediately stopped to check on the man and detected a pulse. The ranks called out to him, and Azeez briefly regained consciousness. However, he continued to drift in and out of consciousness, raising concerns about his condition.

Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the ranks immediately summoned an ambulance from the Lima area while remaining with Azeez and monitoring his condition.

As they waited for medical assistance, Azeez again became unconscious, cold, and unresponsive. The ranks then took emergency action and performed CPR in an effort to keep him alive until the ambulance arrived.

The ambulance responded promptly and transported Azeez for further medical attention.

The police said Azeez later related that he had earlier visited the hospital for treatment and had been given tablets. He reportedly told investigators that while walking to meet a friend in the Lima Housing Scheme, he suddenly became dizzy and drowsy before collapsing on the roadway.

The incident highlights the importance of quick action in an emergency, as Sergeant Ramkissoon and the other ranks immediately assessed Azeez’s condition, summoned medical assistance and remained with him until he could be taken to hospital.
