A NETWORK of 505 community policing groups (CPGs) with around 9,150 members has bolstered security in various areas across Guyana.
“So far in 2026, 363 Guyanese have stepped forward to help keep their communities safe, joining 20 newly formed Community Policing Groups across the country,” Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond said in a post on her official Facebook page.
She went on to say: “But these numbers tell a bigger story. Behind every group are citizens who have chosen to give their time and energy to the communities they call home.”
The minister added: “They know their neighbourhoods, their families and their concerns. Their involvement strengthens the partnership between residents and the Guyana Police Force and helps build the trust and communication that effective policing requires.”
She related that community safety cannot be the police’s responsibility alone, emphasising that it works best when citizens are engaged, information is shared and communities and law enforcement work together.
“The continued growth of our Community Policing Groups is therefore significant. Every new member represents another citizen prepared to take an active role in making their community safer.
“Safer communities are built through partnership, and across Guyana, more citizens are stepping forward to play their part,” Minister Walrond said.
