THE police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2026 about 23:00hrs at a shipyard at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, resulting in the death of Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, a 37-year-old Cuban man.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Guillen and a 32-year-old Cuban man, both employees at the shipyard, were involved in an argument which escalated into a physical altercation, the police said in a press release issued on Sunday.

“During the altercation, the 32-year-old allegedly armed himself with a knife and dealt Guillen a stab to his chest. Guillen subsequently collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters at the shipyard.

“Other workers at the location restrained the suspect and subsequently handed him over to the police. He was arrested and remains in police custody,” the release said.

A knife suspected to have been used during the incident was recovered and lodged as evidence.

The police said Guillen was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
