THE inaugural Neville Sarjoo Memorial Masters Over-50 T20 ‘six-team’ tournament is set to commence on October 10 when two teams from Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice face off on a round-robin basis with the top four teams advancing to the semis.
The top team will play the number three team and the second-placed side will take on the fourth-placed team with the winners going through to the final, which will be played on the Essequibo Coast, on November 14 at a venue to be announced.
No entrance fee is required and balls will be provided by the sponsor- the competition will be played with white balls and coloured clothing.

The late Sarjoo was born in the Essequibo Coast village of Hampton Court and was a long-serving Guyana Cricket Board administrator and national selector.
He was shot and killed in a 1998 robbery of his Cambio in Georgetown.
Speaking at the launching ceremony Chairman of the Organising committee, Surendra Hiralall, indicated that the winning team will take home a trophy and $300,000, the runner -up a trophy and $150,000, while the most valuable player in the tournament will receive a motor cycle.
Hiralall, a national selector, added that members of the finalists will also receive medals.
Additionally, it was announced that the best batsman and best bowler for each game will be presented with a trophy, while the MVP in the final will collect a trophy and $50,000.
The tournament will be held annually for the next five years and is expected to expand, while cricket gear will be handed out to aspiring cricketers in Essequibo after the final.
Meanwhile, son of Neville, Rohan Sarjoo, a former Demerara and Guyana youth and senior List ‘A’ big-hitting batter, expressed optimism of a successful tournament.
Rohan stated that he is still saddened by the passing of his dad, known by most in the young players as uncle Neville.
Rajesh Singh from the Everest Cricket Club and Darshan Persaud of D. Lall and Sons disclosed that their teams are confident of doing well at the tournament.
Rohan said he is delighted to start the competition and thanked all six teams for their participation.
Rohan stated that his father kept cricket alive in the community and he had always wanted to give back to the game.
Neville Sarjoo served as the President of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association and had staged a few Neville Sarjoo U-16 Inter-Association tournaments.
Rohan said he intends to have discussions with the President of the Essequibo Cricket Board to get the (ECB) approval for his family to sponsor a U-15 or U-17 developmental tournament in Essequibo.
