NOVEMBER 14 and 15 will mark the second round of the highly anticipated Need for Speed Karting Championship, where drivers will get closer to the glory and cash prizes on offer.
Round two shifts to the South Dakota circuit for a traditional racing venue and atmosphere, which is expected to feature more action for the classes on show.
A spokesperson for the Jumbo Jet Events team, the organizers of the series, contended that they have been looking forward to putting on round two for fans.
“The Jumbo Jet Events family has been putting in a lot of work ahead of round two of the Need for Speed Karting Championship. Fans and supporters of the Jumbo Jet family have become accustomed to a brand of sport that exceeds traditional standards and round two will be no different.”
Already, we have been in talks with several promoters to ensure a world-class viewing area for the fans who are going to witness some of the best racing action.”
Meanwhile, racers are competing for More than GYD$17 million in prize money, which will be up for grabs across several categories, a historic first in Karting locally.
Round two will feature the LO206 Briggs & Stratton Light, Heavy, Junior and Cadet classes, along with Honda GX200, IAME 125cc, LO206 Rookie Over-35, LO206 Female, Supermoto Senior and Supermoto Junior divisions.
The headline LO206 Briggs & Stratton Light class offers a GYD$4 million (USD$20,000) winner’s purse, making it one of the richest karting class prizes contested in Guyana.
Several other categories offer GYD$2 million (USD$10,000) to their winners, while prizes in the remaining divisions will range from GYD$1 million to GYD$1.5 million.
Veteran racers will also be back in action with a Pro Drivers category for competitors aged 50 and over. The winner of that class will take home GYD$2 million (USD$10,000).
Tyre regulations have also been established for the various categories. Most classes will compete on MG Red tires, while competitors in the IAME 125cc class will use MG Yellow tires.
The race weekend gets underway on Saturday with Qualifying for all classes, while Sunday’s race day begins at 10:00 a.m.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport supports the event along with Jumbo Jet, XCMG and Synotruck.
