FOLLOWING up on his golden performance for Guyana on the opening day of the 2026 South American Powerlifting Championships in the equipped segment in Santiago, Chile, Franklyn Brisport-Luke, did just that once more on Thursday, day five of the competition at the Estadio, National.

Competing in the classic format, the only lifter on the team to contest in both the equipped and classic segments, Brisport-Luke bettered the numbers he achieved in the bench and deadlift of the equipped competition.

He worked his way to a 125kg squat the same as his equipped lift. His best bench press on Thursday was 77.5kg compared to his 72.5kg in the equipped while he pulled off a 157.5 deadlift, 2.5kg up on his 155kg in the equipped competition.

Brisport-Luke’s total was 360kg which landed him the gold to increase Guyana’s medal haul so far to six with nine more lifters to hit the platform on Friday and Saturday.

Making his international debut was Meshach Alexander in the 83kg Junior division and he made a good impression despite placing eighth in his class.

Alexander inked a best squat of 212.5kg, bench press of 117.5kg, deadlift 245kg for a total of 572.5kg, gaining valuable experience which will serve him well going forward.
