ARCHERY Guyana team commenced their journey to South American games glory late last evening in Santa Fe Argentina.
The team which comprises Devin Persaud Permaul, Mehandra Chatargum and Trevaughn Waldron along which coach Ryan McKinnon were in action late last evening, with action continuing today until September 25.
For Archery Guyana, participation at Santa Fe 2026 represents another important opportunity for Guyanese archers to compete at a major multi-sport international event, gain experience against athletes from across the region and continue developing within Guyana’s high-performance pathway.
The participation also forms part of a particularly active international year for Guyanese archery. In 2026, Guyanese archers have represented the country at major regional competitions, while the federation continues to develop athletes, coaches and officials for sustained international participation.
Archery Guyana recognises the important role played by the Guyana Olympic Association in facilitating Guyana’s participation in the South American Games and in providing national federations and athletes with opportunities to compete on the international stage and in this regard extends thanks to President Godfrey Munroe and his Executive Committee.
The GOA has identified the South American Games as part of Guyana’s broader preparation and development pathway toward future major multi-sport competitions, including the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Santa Fe Games are particularly significant for Archery Guyana as the federation prepares to welcome the archery family to Guyana later this year for the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships and 8th Caribbean Development Championships, scheduled for October 22–25, 2026 at the Guyana National Stadium.
Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed pride in the team’s participation: “It is always a proud moment to see Guyanese archers take their place on an international field representing our country. Santa Fe provides another valuable opportunity for our athletes to test themselves, gain experience and continue building their international careers.”
She added that participation in major Games must be viewed as part of a continuing development process. “Every international competition adds another chapter to an athlete’s development. Our responsibility as a federation is to ensure that these opportunities translate into experience, knowledge and a stronger pathway for the athletes who will follow.”
