A 38-year-old businessman was shot in the right leg and robbed of three yellow metal chains valued at approximately $720,000 during an alleged robbery under arms at ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, on Saturday night.
Police said the incident occurred at about 23:30h on September 19, 2026, after the businessman was approached by two unidentified men while he was in his yard using his cellular phone.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were wearing masks and reflective vests, with one reportedly armed with a handgun.
The men allegedly confronted the businessman and attempted to take the chains he was wearing. During the confrontation, a round was discharged, striking the victim in his right thigh.
The suspects then allegedly removed the three chains and fled the area.
The injured businessman was taken by relatives to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he remains under medical care. His condition has been described as stable.
As part of the investigation, police have questioned several persons and examined CCTV cameras in the area.
No arrests have been made up to press time, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the robbery and shooting are continuing.
