THE Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) has welcomed the government’s continued support for the IMC Over-40s Cricket World Cup, as Guyana prepares to host 16 teams for 72 matches in October 2026.
The plans have now moved a step further on Sep 15, 2026, when Minister Steven Jacobs summoned the first joint interagency meeting among all the relevant government agencies, along with representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and CWIMA representatives.
The tournament will feature 45-over matches at venues across several regions. Admission to all matches will be FREE, giving fans the opportunity to enjoy international masters cricket and support the participating teams.
The briefing focused on coordinating team arrivals, transportation, medical services, and arrangements for players and spectators. Priorities included a smooth arrival experience for visiting teams and coordinated services across the host regions. Special mention was made about the safety and security of the players and match officials during their stay in Guyana. In this regard, the GPF will visit all the venues (hotels & grounds )across the country to formulate a security plan for our visitors.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport; the National Sports Commission; the Ministry of Health; the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation; GEMA; the Guyana Police Force; the Guyana Defence Force and other supporting agencies participated.
