THE Area Control Centre at the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) Air Navigation Services has been highly commended for its exemplary response in facilitating the safe return of an aircraft after an in-flight emergency.

According to a press release issued by the GCAA, the incident took place shortly after the aircraft departed Cheddi Jagan International Airport, bound for the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua, on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

“After identifying the emergency, the pilot in command promptly informed the Air Traffic Control Tower at Timehri. Air traffic controllers provided immediate clearance for the aircraft’s return and expertly coordinated its landing, ensuring proper separation from other air traffic. The Aerodrome Fire Service and Cheddi Jagan International Airport authorities responded promptly after being notified of the emergency,” the release said.

It added that the GCAA reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism in air-traffic management.
