MANNIRAM Prashad, the President of the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber (GOGEC), recently led an 18-member Guyanese delegation to GASTECH 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, positioning Guyana with global leaders in this sector.
Guyana, according to the GOGEC head, is entering GASTECH at a particularly important stage of its energy transformation.
Noting that Guyana is no longer an emerging oil producer, Prashad said the conversation has shifted towards how Guyana can use its oil and natural gas resources to build a broader energy, industrial, technological and economic ecosystem.
In his speech, Prashad said that this makes several Guyanese developments relevant to the international gas industry.
He mentioned several advancements including the 300 MW Wales Gas-to-Energy project, natural gas processing, and natural gas liquids (NGL) production, expansion of domestic electricity generation, the proposed Wales data-centre/AI ecosystem, potential gas-based industrial development, fertiliser and petrochemical opportunities, future gas pipeline infrastructure, the continued expansion of offshore oil production, Local-content development and Guyanese participation, and the possibility of Guyana becoming a vital regional energy and technology hub.
Notwithstanding this, Prashad stressed that Guyana’s offshore oil production for 2026 has continued to rapidly expand. Although the Stabroek Block produced over 900,000 barrels per day during 2026, monthly production fluctuates.
“Government data cited by Reuters showed production of approximately 895,000 barrels per day in May and 869,000 barrels per day in June. The arrival of the fifth FPSO, Errea Wittu, is another major milestone,” he said.
Errea Wittu is being deployed for the Uaru development in the Stabroek Block. Prashad noted that the Uaru development will add approximately 250,000 barrels per day of production capacity. Once Uaru is online, Guyana’s production capacity is expected to move to an approximate 1.15 million barrels per day.
The Whiptail development is the sixth Stabroek Block project, and is expected to add another estimated 250,000 barrels per day, potentially taking production capacity toward an approximate 1.4 million barrels per day. This is expected to start in 2027.
The seventh Stabroek development is Hammerhead, with first production expected around 2029. Prashad announced that Hammerhead is expected to have a production capacity of around 150,000 barrels per day, representing another phase of continued offshore development in Guyana.
Prashad declared that the Guyana story becomes offshore gas to pipeline, gas processing, electricity, data centres, industrialisation, manufacturing and finally, economic diversification.
For Guyanese businesses, all of this means development potential in areas such as engineering, construction, logistics, ICT, catering, transportation, accommodation, professional services and much more.
This, he said, aligns with GOGEC’s mandate to promote trade, investment, knowledge transfer and opportunities within Guyana’s energy sector.
GASTECH 2026 was held from September 14 to 17, 2026 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) and was identified as one of the most significant international events focused on natural gas, liquefied natural gas, low-carbon solutions, electrification and emerging technologies, including AI for the energy sector.
